Canadians are still waiting for amendments to the Copyright Act that will address the challenges of applying copyright in the digital environment. However, recent court decisions have clarified certain issues, and practitioners are developing their own solutions. The workshop will cover the main provisions of the Copyright Act, as well as recent Supreme Court decisions that relate to the digital environment. Participants will have an opportunity to submit their particular questions in advance. The responses will be included in the workshop content.
Instructor – Dr. Jean Dryden, a leading Canadian expert on Copyright. Dr. Dryden joined the faculty of the College of Information Studies, University of Maryland this past September. During January 2009 she will be teaching courses on Copyright and Archives in Toronto, Ottawa and Edmonton as well as Winnipeg.
