MLA Endorses ALA Defense of Core Library Values

on February 28, 2017 - 12:31pm

The Manitoba Library Association supports the American Library Association (ALA) and our library colleagues in the United States in defense of core library values and social justice. In a statement released January 30th, 2017 ALA opposes recent administrative changes in the U.S. that contradict the core library values of access to information for all individuals, the right to privacy, and freedom from discrimination. Libraries are spaces of inclusivity and safety. We stand together in championing social justice, equity, diversity, and freedom of expression. MLA endorses this statement in unity with the Canadian Federation of Library Associations / Fédération canadienne des associations de bibliothèques (CFLA/FCAB) and the British Columbia Library Association (BCLA).
