Qualifications:

This position requires general knowledge of library and information science practice and principles derived from a Master of Library and Information Science degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience; recent experience with online searching; and demonstrated ability using current Microsoft desktop tools or their equivalents. Desirable assets include: recent library reference and client service delivery experience; ability to carry out research in history, public administration, political science or law; knowledge and experience working with current library technology in one or more core functions. Good interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are preferred. The incumbent is frequently required to work alone at either of the Library's service sites and must be able to provide the full range of services in person, on the phone, and by e-mail, and be physically able to retrieve a variety of library materials unassisted including lifting materials to waist height weighing up to 25 lbs.

Duties:

Provides a full range of in-depth reference and research services to Members of the Legislative Assembly, the civil service; and researchers from the general public. Analyzes information requests and develops search strategies using in-house tools, online databases, the Internet, and a network of information resources in Manitoba and elsewhere. Supports collection development activities. Assists in the promotion of the Library's collections and services to its varied clientele by preparing client materials and updating documentation. Carries out projects related to the library's special collections, including database work.
