Electronic Resources Cataloguer - Information Services Division

CIER, the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources, is a national First Nation-directed environmental charitable organisation. We offer research, advisory, education, training and information services to Indigenous communities, governments and private companies in four program areas: taking action on climate change, conserving biodiversity, protecting lands and waters, and building sustainable communities.

Our virtual library, a project of our Information Services division, provides Aboriginal peoples and the general public with current and accessible environmental and Aboriginal-focused information. Currently, we seek an Electronic Resources Cataloguer to assist with collection development, cataloguing and staff capacity-building activities.

Position Type:

Full-time term position; Monday-Thursday, 32 hours/week; $15.00/hour

Duties include:

  • Original and copy cataloguing of new items
  • Identifying new online resources for inclusion in the collection
  • Maintaining existing online library collection
  • Assisting in developing and delivering instructional sessions to build staff capacity to use the catalogue

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a two-year library technician program
  • Demonstrated competencies in library cataloguing, with an emphasis on subject analysis
  • Ability to use word processing and library database applications at an intermediate level
  • Internet searching skills

  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent computer application skills
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Strong organizational, technical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting

Candidate Eligibility Requirements:

The Electronic Resources Cataloguer position is dependent on funding from the Canadian Heritage’s Young Canada Works (YCW) Program. Candidates for this position must be:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada
  • A Canadian citizen or a permanent resident, or have refugee status
  • Between 16-30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Registered in the YCW online candidate inventory (www.youngcanadaworks.ca)
  • Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment

Additionally, candidates for this position must:

  • Not have another full-time job (over 30 hours/week) while employed in the YCW job
  • Have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the YCW job
  • Intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job
