Qualifications:
This position requires a Master of Library and Information Science degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience; experience in selecting library materials, managing serials, and/or administering a library budget; experience in supervising staff; use of current Windows-based desktop tools (Word, Excel, Outlook). Desirable experience includes library reference work or post-secondary studies in history, public administration, political science or legal fields; and preservation of library materials. The successful incumbent will demonstrate good communication skills, ability to manage workflow and projects, practical knowledge of budget management, and ability to work effectively as a team member. Demonstrated knowledge and experience regarding the selection, use and evaluation of electronic resources and/or licensing issues for libraries is also an asset.
Duties:
As Head of Collection Development, incumbent plans, directs, and coordinates collection development policies and processes for selection, de-selection and preservation of print and online resources; supervises three staff; directs purchasing to meet and anticipate the information needs of the Legislature and government personnel; manages legal deposit acquisitions; promotes awareness and use of library collections; and carries out reference and research duties as a member of the Reference team.
