Reporting to the Springfield Public Library Board, the Springfield Public Library Head Librarian will bring leadership skills and vision to building first class library services for residents of Springfield. The librarian will implement Board policies and administer the operations of the library system.

The Head Librarian will be responsible for managing, directing and leading the day to day provision of library services for Springfield. The Head Librarian also provides strategic leadership and vision to the Board of Directors.

Strong technical skills in administration, financial management and human resource management coupled with excellent communication, analytical, and leadership skills have prepared you for this exciting challenge. Your post-secondary education in a relevant discipline and related job experience complement your desire to succeed in this position.  Training in Library and Information Science would be an asset.

The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include all functions necessary to carry out Program Development, manage Public Relations, day to day Library Administration and Personnel management.

Your skills abilities and experience will highlight; your knowledge of trends in Library programming; your ability to forecast supply needs for budget preparation; your expertise in dealing with the general public on site and in the community, and your managerial capacity in recruiting developing and supervising library staff and volunteers.

Preference will be given to candidates with library experience and a degree in Library Science and/or a Library Technician Diploma.
