The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks a dynamic, highly-motivated person for the  position of Head, Sciences and Technology Library to begin August 1, 2010, or as soon as  possible thereafter. This position normally has a two year probationary period and the  salary and the rank (Assistant/Associate) are commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited or equivalent institution;

• At least 5 years’ library experience;

• Supervisory and management experience;

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues, and trends in academic libraries;

• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Candidates with the following qualifications will be preferred:


• Undergraduate degree in the sciences;

• Experience in the areas of reference service, information literacy and collection management.

Reporting to the Director of Libraries, the Head of the Sciences and Technology Library is responsible for the operations of that Library and its satellites, the Donald W. Craik Engineering Library and the William R. Newman Library (Agriculture), in a manner that meets the needs of faculty and students, and reflects the goals of the University and the Libraries.
