Liaison Librarian

The University of Manitoba Libraries seeks a dynamic, highly-motivated person for the position of Liaison Librarian at a General/Assistant Librarian rank to begin January 1, 2011, or as soon as possible thereafter. This position normally has a two year probationary period and the salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in library and/or information studies from an ALA accredited or equivalent institution;

• Ability to manage a complex workload in a timely, effective manner;

• Knowledge and understanding of best practices, current issues and trends in academic libraries;

• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Candidates with the following qualifications will be preferred:

• An undergraduate or graduate degree in a Social Science.

• Experience in the areas of reference and research service and collection management.

Reporting to the Head of Reference Services, the Liaison Librarian is responsible for developing and maintaining an understanding of the research and teaching programs of the Faculty of Social Work and the Faculty of Kinesiology and Recreation Management and, on the basis of that understanding, plan for the future development of collections and services.
