University College of the North (UCN), Manitoba’s newest post secondary educational institution located in northern Manitoba is committed to meeting the education needs of Aboriginal and northern people. With two main campuses (The Pas and Thompson), a branch library at Norway House and eleven other regional centres throughout northern Manitoba, UCN is poised to be a leader in the provision of quality education in the north.  We invite applications from individuals who wish to be part of a dynamic organization and a leader with the team that is charting a course to improving the education of northern Manitobans. 

The Position: The Librarian will be responsible for the ongoing management of The Pas campus library. This includes the scheduling and supervision of library staff as per the UCN policies. The Librarian will be responsible to: provide in person support; provide information literacy training to students, staff and faculty of UCN; supervising the cataloguing, classifying, indexes and subject analysis for library materials; part of the collection development team; and part of the libraries administrative team.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Master of Library/Information Studies degree.  Requirements include five years experience in an academic library; personnel supervision; bibliographic instruction; and library automation experience.  Experience with the SIRSI system; developing workshops; and the promotion of libraries is highly desirable.

Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture is desired. The ability to speak an Aboriginal language is an asset.

Salary:  $28.48 to $34.97, plus remoteness allowance
