Winnipeg Public Library requires a Project Coordinator

for On the Same Page: Manitoba Reads! 2009-2010

The Project:

 

During 2008-2009, in the first undertaking of its kind in the province, On The Same Page: Manitoba Reads, a project of The Winnipeg Foundation in partnership with the Foundation’s Literacy for Life Fund, encouraged Manitobans to read In Search of April Raintree by Manitoba author Beatrice Mosionier.

 

Building on the success of the inaugural year of this project, we will be seeking to increase awareness and participation by all Manitobans in 2009-2010. Re-launching the project with an invitation to the community to help select the featured book, this province-wide literacy initiative will bolster public engagement by involving adults and youth in a shared reading experience.

 

Winnipeg Public Library will assume a leadership role with On The Same Page: Manitoba Reads 2009-2010 by managing the overall program.

 

 

The Position:

 

Reporting to the Administrative Coordinator of Youth Services, the OTSP Project Coordinator is responsible for:

 

  • Coordinating the On The Same Page: Manitoba Reads! project including but not limited to:

 

    • Working closely with the author and publisher on all programs.
    • Organizing and planning all events, promotional opportunities, author readings, etc.
    • Establishing partnerships with public libraries, schools, cultural and arts organizations, businesses, corporate sponsors, etc. in order to set up events, promote the project, seek sponsorship and ensure the success of the project
    • Ensuring that all marketing and promotional materials, including but not limited to posters, brochures, book marks, are professionally developed, printed and distributed as required
    • Acting as the media contact for all events and ensuring that all relevant media outlets (print, television, radio) are aware of the program and the events being planned
    • Ensuring fiscal accountability for all expenditures
    • Maintaining the OTSP website for the duration of the contract
    • Preparing documentation related to the project including progress reports and a final report with recommendations for the next year
    • Other duties as assigned

 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications:

 

  • A background in communications, not-for-profit, the arts and/or book industry is desirable
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office systems (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher)
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work efficiently and effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Good organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluency in French is an asset 
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset

 

 

Position Details:

 

The OTSP Project Coordinator position is an 11 month contract requiring full-time hours in October 2009 and part-time hours during the balance of the term:

 

June – 20 hours per week

July - 10 hours per week

August, September – 20 hours per week

October – 40 hours per week  

November, December – 20 hours per week

January, February, March, April – 10 hours per week             .

 

Schedule of shifts to be negotiated with successful candidate.

Some evenings and weekends will be required.

 

Some travel within the province may be required.

 

Rate of pay for this contract position is $15.00 per hour.

 

 

 

Projected Start Date & Term: 

Monday, June 1, 2009 until Friday, April 30, 2010
