Changes coming to job posting process effective March 1

The Manitoba Library Association is a member of The Partnership, Canada's national network of provincial and territorial library associations. The MLA's involvement in this network has resulted in enhanced membership benefits such as increased access to professional development and career opportunities through the Education Institute and Partnership Job Board.

While the MLA is proud to be an active member of the Partnership, the Job Board is one area where we are not yet fully participating. Members of The Partnership have been transitioning from the practice of posting jobs locally on websites and listservs to directing job seekers and employers to the Job Board. This change has taken place for several reasons:

  • The Partnership's Job Board lists positions available to library and information personnel from coast to coast, making it easier for job seekers to find jobs in one centralized location. Ads also receive greater visibility from a wider audience.
  • The Job Board is hosted by the British Columbia Library Association on behalf of all associations represented by The Partnership, resulting in a standard and timely process for all.
  • An automated email notification service is available for those wanting to keep up-to-date with recent postings.

The MLA has historically posted job ads on the MLA Portal, newsletters, and the listserv. Beginning March 1, 2011, the MLA will no longer be posting job ads in these locations, and job seekers and employers will instead be directed to the Job Board.

Information about the Partnership Job Board

  • Jobs ads are approved between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. (Pacific), Monday through Friday.
  • The cost to employers who use the Job Board is $50 (institutional MLA member) or $75 (non-member) for an ad posted for up to three months.
  • The BCLA manages all payments and questions related to the Job Board. The toll-free number is 1-888-683-5354.

Anyone with questions, comments or concerns are invited to contact an MLA Board member.
